FLOODING
Flooding was at a minimum for many of the residents this year, but a few had some more serious problems.
The County of Bruce is going to do the following improvements to the drain along Bruce County Rd 15 from Albert Rd to the lake this year.
The changes are as follows:
- Survey the north ditch between Albert Rd. to the existing 12-inch inlet.
- Approach Kincardine to obtain 17-feet of widening along their park frontage This step is completed.
- Approach the adjacent landowner west of the Kincardine property to also obtain 17-feet of widening, at least along the frontage to where the 12-inch inlet exists.
- Install a new inlet structure on the 12-inch system.
- Improve the north ditch from Albert Rd. to improved Inlet.
- Upgrades at the beach outlet.
The cost of this expansion of the drain is $30,000.00 . The work will be done in the spring or summer of 2008.
This should help carry the water away at times needed to help prevent flooding.

SPRING CLEANING:
Keep your garbage in an area so that bears, racoons and other animals are unable to get into it. Practice this, we can be sure that these wild creatures will
move out of our area to find food elsewhere.
BEACH:
Keeping our beach clean is a priority.
If each persons looks after their own garbage we may have the cleanest beach along Lake Huron.
There are containers at the entrances leading in and out of Inverhuron Beach (locations of the three in one blue boxes are at the lower park, end of John St. and at the end of Cayley St.) the boxes are for your use of beach garbage only---NOT HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE or LAWN GARBAGE.
DOGS ON BEACH:
All dogs need to be leashed if off of their property. Especially on the beach where many people are out to have a good time and relaxing vacation. Respect each others use and all will have a great year. Pick up after your animals both on and off the Beach--
If you see dogs running at large you should call 519-396-2287

DEER
Are plentiful in this area and it is not uncommon to see them in amongst the houses in Inverhuron. Practice caution when driving, There are whistles that can be put on vehicles to scare them from coming out onto the roads
Fire Prevention Tips
Fireplace and Chimney
Being good to the environment also means making sure your fireplace habits are safe and will not pose a danger to your home or your neighbourhood.
Remember:
Clear the area around the fireplace and chimney. Debris too close to the fireplace could cause a fire. Check the flue for obstructions like birds' nests, and trim any overhanging branches or large trees near the chimney.
Always use a fireplace screen.
Never overload the fireplace with too many logs. Don't use the fireplace as an incinerator, and never burn garbage, Christmas trees, or piles of paper.
Keep a fire extinguisher on hand and place smoke detectors throughout the house. Test the smoke detectors and batteries regularly. See that the extinguisher is in good working order and that all family members know how to operate it.
When building a fire, place logs at the rear of the fireplace, preferably on a grate.
Never leave fire unattended. Be sure the fire is extinguished before you go to bed.
>Keep wood stacked, covered, and out-of-doors, away from the house and off the ground. Bring in only as
much as you need for one evening to prevent insects that may be in the wood from entering your home. Manufactured Fire logs, which are packaged to eliminate insects and mess, can also prevent this problem.
Have your fireplace inspected annually and cleaned when necessary by a chimney sweep certified by the Chimney Safety Institute of America. A dirty fireplace can cause chimney fires and inhibit proper venting of smoke up the flue.
OPEN AIR BURNING within the MUNICIPALITY Prohibitions:
With the exception of barbeque fires (charcoal or propane), no person may set a fire or allow a fire to burn in the open air without obtaining a permit from the Chief Fire Official.
Permits must be in hand prior to setting a fire.
Permits can be obtained at the Kincardine Fire Station (Monday thru Friday) , or the Tiverton Fire Station (any Wednesday. Please telephone 396-2141 for information and arrangements for a permit. To view the entire By-law No. 2001-127 may be viewed at the Kincardine Fire Station, 127 Mahood Jonston Drive.
BREAK AND ENTER:
A break in took place this spring at the Cottage Grocery Store.
Also this spring a break in took place at a cottage on Wellington Street it happened between April 28 and May 10.
theft was more than $ 4,000.00 worth tools.
We suggest you help our community to prevent crime by the doing the following.
- Keep doors locked when away and at night-or if you are outdoors and someone maybe able to enter without you knowing.
- Reporting suspicious persons or activities to the police.
-You are encouraged to record the license plate numbers and descriptions of any suspicious vehicles in your neighborhood,
-Watch for strangers in your neighbourhood,
-Watch for persons taking "shortcuts" through your property,
-Watch for vehicles making repeat visits through your neighbourhood.
-Call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS)
and report what has happened.
By reporting this activity it will help the OPP in doing their job to make Inverhuron a safe place to live and vacation.
UPDATES TO THE UPPER PARK
The feedback from the survey was overwhelmingly supportive of building of
tennis courts in the upper park (with Basketball area) and we therefore
proceeded with this mandate to the Town of Kincardine Recreation
committee on Thursday October 11,2007.
Kevin Kenny presented our proposal for the Upper Park that included
a double tennis court with a separate Basketball area and
a Clubhouse Storage building facility that could be used by the
residents of Inverhuron and surrounding communities or used by the Town
of Kincardine recreation programming.
The double tennis pad can also be used for many other
Inverhuron requirements including Annual general meetings in the future
and the site for the annual Garage sale location to name a few.
Our proposal was very well received by the 6 person recreation committee
chaired by Karen Kieffer Head of Recreation. They were impressed with
the presentation and the amount of work and preparation that went into
the proposal. The outcome could not have been better following this meeting, During
the meeting it was communicated to us that our request for funding for
this project has been approved and will be submitted to the town for
approval within the 2008 capital budgeting.
But the request for funding for the tennis courts has been deferred to the 2009 budget for the reason
that the emphasis this year was to finish existing projects prior to starting new ones, which is likely why
the tennis courts were put on the deferred list to 2009.The IDRA will continue to work to get the upgrades done to the upper park,
BIKE PARK:
The location of the Inverhuron Bike Park is at the end of Richards Drive in Inverhuron

The Inverhuron Bike Park will be starting in the next few weeks with volunteer days during the summer.

If you would like to volunteer in the building of this park you can send your email address to
:info@inverhuronrate.com or gordon.barr@sympatico.ca
and we will pass this information to Stephen Murray and he will be sending out Emails about the dates of the volunteer days
also the volunteer days will be posted on the IDRA web site.
Clean-up at the site of Inverhuron’s future mountain bike park started on Saturday April 26.
With $40,000 provided through the 2008 budget by the Municipality of Kincardine, organizers hope to get the project off the ground this summer.
“We hope to start some preliminary trails, a picnic area and a parking lot this summer,” said Council Mike Leggett, who heads-up the ad-hoc committee organizing the project.
DAVIDSON CENTRE ADDITION:
Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell issued a plaque marking the provincial government's $1,075 Million construction towards the Davidson Centre addition. Accepting the plaque was Mayor Larry Kraemer and Councillor Guy Anderson. The project tender will be awarded in May. It is expected to take 6-7 months for the project to be completed. . Kincardine has budgeted for the other half. KASAAC was very involved in this endeavour for the past 6 years. The hired consultant did determine a need for a shared place for seniors and others.
