Because safety is a #1 priority wherever you are!
There was great community support for the first Safety Day held on July 5th, 2010 in Upper Park.
The event was organized by Donna Irvine, with the support of the IDRA, with the vision to pass on vital information to the residents of Inverhuron. There were many interesting and informative demonstrations for "hands on" learning of safety, as well as many various organizations there to promote safety on all levels, from water to home, cottage and bicycle.
There was a full hands on demonstation of bike safety and cruiser exploration from the OPP. Cons. Kevin Martin. A fire dousing experience with a fire extinguisher and the opportunity to see some of the trucks was provided by the Tiverton Fire Dept.
Tiverton Fire Dept also wanted to remind residents about the fact that fire extinguishers need to be checked every 10 years to make sure they are functional. They also handed out bags of information and hats for the kids.
Const. Dean Rutherford from Crime stoppers Owen Sound was present with treats and information how to utilize Crime Stoppers as well for those who wished to make an anonimous report.
Roberta Trelford of CEMC, Health & Safety, 911 Municipality of Kincardine provided information on evacuation.
Water safety was represented by Peggy Griffen from Bluewater Safety and Rescue - MYSIS is the boat used for rescues. Peggy discussed water safety and what is required by boat owners on their boats.
Home and cottage security was represented by ADT Security Systems from London, ON. ADT offered information on various system concepts that are available to home and cottage owners to protect their property.
Senior communication advisor Kevin Orr and Marie Wilson from NWMO (Nuclear Waste Management) with their display vehicle giving up to date information to their neighbours of Inverhuron.
Bill Thorne was present to represent Inverhuron Provincial Park.
There were approx 50 - 75 residents who attended. "I was pleased with the first years turn out." says Donna Irvine.
Most participants would like to do it again. Watch for the next Safety event held next year.

Next summer promises to be boring without more volunteers
This year it was very difficult to put on events without scrambling around for volunteers to help put on the events that we have customarily been hosting for many years. This is because the need for people to step up and spare a couple of hours a summer for these events is so scarce.
If any members of the Inverhuron & District Ratepayers Association that would like to be involved in the activities such as Kids Day, Yard Sale, Corn Roast, to become a director or member of a Committee that interests you, please contact a member of the board either in person or by emailing us.
These events will cease to exist without your support in the future!

Upcoming events!

Sept. 04/10
Annual Meeting 10am at the Lower Park
Corn Roast 5pm at the Lower Park Door Prizes , Entertainment ,Food ,Open mic for jokes - bestknock knock joke gets a prize!!!!

Fun for all at Kids Day!!!
There were a few great people who volunteered there time at this event and despite their kids being in it, who still took the time to help the IDRA board members in setup and running of the event without selfishness or complaint.
To them we express our sincerest thanks, without you this event would not be possible.
It was an amazing warm and sunny day Saturday July 3rd for another annual event, Kids Day. It was with a bit of sadness that we said goodbye to our good friend and long time supporter and organizer of Kids Day, Kevin Kenny, who died earlier this year in a tragic car accident. Kind words from Drew Robertson who expressed that Kevin wanted to see that the Kids have a great time and that we need to continue this tradition to celebrate our young folks who need to have an awesome eventlike this. Bill Stewart has taken on the great task of continuing this event this year in Kevin's place. We thank him for stepping up and doing an awesome job!!!! Fun for all at Kids Day!!!
