| Intro to the Recreation and Social Committee | Update on the meeting of October 11 | |
This is a new committee that has been setup to co-ordinate all the recreation and social events at Inverhuron.
It was suggested that the IDRA become an umbrella organization so that they might co-ordinate events to prevent conflicts. This would also make it possible for the IDRA to support events with volunteers and to give financial support.
The committee will be chaired by Kevin Kenny.
The first order of business for this committee will be for Kevin to present the IDRA's proposal for the changes to the upper park in Inverhuron to the Kincardine Recreation Committee. on October 11.
The results of this meeting will be posted on this page after this meeting is held.
Just a quick update for all of you who provided me with surveys input
regarding the potential uses for Revitalization of the Upper Park in
Inverhuron.
The feedback was overwhelmingly supportive of building of
tennis courts in the upper park (with Basketball area) and we therefore
proceeded with this mandate to the Town of Kincardine Recreation
committee last Thursday.
I presented our proposal for the Upper Park to be revitalized to include
an enclosed double tennis court with a separate Basketball area too and
a Clubhouse Storage building facility that could be used by the
residents of Inverhuron and surrounding communities or used by the Town
of Kincardine recreation programming and the newly formed Inverhuron
Tennis Club.(ITC)
The double Tennis pad can also be used for many other
Inverhuron requirements including Annual general meetings in the future
and the site for the annual Garage sale location to name a few.
Our proposal was very well received by the 6 person recreation committee
chaired by Karen Kieffer Head of Recreation. They were impressed with
the presentation and the amount of work and preparation that went into
the proposal. I want to thank all those people who provided significant
input into the process including the entire IDRA executive and
especially Gord Barr, Donna Irvine, and my Recreation advisors Martha
Neely, Steven Orme and Jerry & Sarah Rahrig.
The outcome could not have been better following this meeting, During
the meeting it was communicated to use that our request for funding for
this project has been approved and will be submitted to the town for
approval within the 2008 capital budgeting process now being compiled.
That is the good news ...we will ultimately find out how much of the
money gets approved in late 2007 or early 2008. This means we move to
the next phase of our request which is to confirm the exact dollars
allocated for 2008. Once we get confirmation on the dollars allocated
to our project for 2008 we can determine if we are in a position to
build the courts and the clubhouse or just start with the courts first.
And the clubhouse/storage facility in phase two. Ultimately they were
supportive of an entire redevelopment of the Upper park to take
advantage of this wonderful property for the residents of Inverhuron and
surrounding communities.
All in all the process of building these courts in Inverhuron has begun
and we are hopeful after Thursday's meeting that we will be playing
tennis in Inverhuron on Municipally built courts in the next 18-24
months HOPEFULLY (depending on the level of financial funding approved
in 2008 capital budget)
I have included the survey data from October 10th and I have a 24 page
PowerPoint presentation that I would be pleased to make available to
anyone who is interested in reviewing our proposal so rather than fill
up your email in box ...if you would like an electronic copy of the
proposal please reply to me and I will pass it along so there is
complete understanding of our request made to the Town of Kincardine
last Thursday.
We feel it is critical to keep the Inverhuron residents informed about
these types of projects and I will continue to advise and update you as
this project moves forward.
Any questions please advise.
Kevin Kenny
